High Walls Festival in Congham, with planned Deaf Havana and ex-Kasabian member Tom Meighan performances, cancelled after amber weather warning

A West Norfolk festival has been cancelled as organisers say it would be 'totally irresponsible' to host it during the extreme heat that has been forecasted for the weekend.

High Walls Festival was supposed to be taking place at the High House Garden Weddings in Congham this Saturday and Sunday, with acts such as Deaf Havana, ex Kasabian member Tom Meighan and many more due to take to the stage.

But officials have announced it will no longer be going ahead this weekend, and said last minute fire risk issues at the site were among the reasons.

A spokesperson from Twisted Melon Productions, organisers of the event, said: "We had a number of issues at the venue with the ongoing heatwave.

"The site itself is surrounded by barley fields and we just feel it would be totally irresponsible to host an event when we cannot guarantee the safety of everyone attending and of course the irreplaceable historic venue.

"The local authorities raised a few last minute issues regarding fire risks meaning the venue required us to run a completely smoking free event."

The spokesperson said it would have been 'impossible' to run a smoke-free event.

"We are now looking at new dates and hoping we can pull in all the acts to make it work," the spokesperson added.
