Long Sutton and Norfolk fire crews called to blaze at derelict Bridge Hotel in Sutton Bridge

A fire was reported within a derelict hotel last night.

Crews from Long Sutton and Norfolk were called to the Bridge Hotel in Sutton Bridge, a known grot spot, just before 7.30pm.

This is the second fire reported at the eyesore in the last year, with emergency services called out to the building in March.

A Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “Our Long Sutton crew and two appliances from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire using a hose reel.

"This resulted in severe damage by fire to a mattress within the building, and the cause was unknown.”

The Bridge Hotel was sold at an online auction for a surprising £181,000 - far higher than the £80,000 to £100,000 guide price – in November last year.

At the time villagers welcomed the news of the sale, but hope that The Bridge is not going to languish further like other buildings - such as The Bull in Long Sutton.
