Anglian Water offers reassurances to villagers in Upwell and Outwell following social media rumours over water safety
A water firm has issued strong reassurances to residents in two villages after rumours on social media of “high levels” of lead in the tap water.
A post on Wisbech Discussion Forum on Facebook claimed there were issues with the water suggesting there were high levels of lead in it and warning people not to drink it.
Anglian Water was swift to issue a response, emphasising there are no restrictions or concerns in the Upwell and Outwell areas after being contacted by the Lynn News to check the claims being made.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We supply our customers with the highest quality drinking water and have robust monitoring and reporting systems in place to ensure our public water supplies remain safe, reliable and among the best in the world.
“We regularly test our water for safety and quality and have no restrictions in place for that area. Were we to have any water quality concerns, we would directly advise our customers immediately.
“If a customer has concerns about their water quality, we will assist them and carry out the appropriate tests and advise them accordingly.
“We encourage our customers to contact us if they have questions or concerns. If you have any concerns about your drinking water, you can call us on 03457 145 145, or visit our website.”
