Eric's Fish and Chips Holt named as one of the UK's 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants by Fry Magazine





A fish and chip shop which opened in Holt last year as a business expansion of its thriving operation at Thornham has been named as one of best restaurants of its kind in the UK.

It was announced this week that Eric's Fish and Chips Holt, located at the appropriately named address, Fish Hill, was recognised as one of the UK’s 10 Best Fish & Chip Restaurants 2019/2020. Last year the business also opened another shop at St Ives.

The accolade follows an extensive search by leading trade publication Fry Magazine to find those takeaways serving up the finest fish suppers.

To make the 10 Best, Eric’s Fish and Chips had to impress a mystery diner who visited unannounced and marked the restaurant on over 40 aspects of their business from the quality of the food and customer service to cleanliness and value for money.

With the pass mark set high at 94%, Eric’s scored an impressive 96% with the mystery diner particularly praising the food, stating: “This batter was perfect, the best I have ever tasted.”

The interior was complimented for being clean, tidy, modern and finished to a high standard. It was also noted that the server was cheerful, friendly and polite.

Eric Snaith, owner, of Eric’s Fish and Chips, said: “We are delighted as a team to be recognized with this award. We only opened Holt at the end of July last year. It’s a credit to the team at Holt and to all the hard work that has gone into this restaurant and take away. It gives us all a lift during these hard times."

Reece Head, competition organiser, said: “It’s been a tough year for fish and chip shops with rising potato and fish prices putting pressure on shops’ margins.

"On top of this, restaurants are now dealing with the difficult issue of coronavirus, so it’s with great pleasure that we bring some positive news at this tough time.

“All those that have made our 10 Best Restaurants operate to the highest standards, never cut corners and day-in, day-out bring piping hot, freshly cooked fish and chips to the table.

"Many of these restaurants are at the heart of the community and without them our high streets, town centres, cities and shopping malls just wouldn’t be the same.

“We are proud of all our winners as there is so much more to running a small business these days and these restaurants are on top of every aspect, whether it’s sourcing sustainably, being environmentally responsible, introducing click and collect and deliveries and taking card payments. They are making fish and chips relevant today and for the future.

All of Eric's Fish and Chips shops are closed until it is safe to reopen.
