Flooding and sewerage issues plague West Winch as concerns remain unresolved
“Really not good enough,” were the words of a West Winch resident after a lack of action has been taken since raw sewerage has been flowing out of a drain for weeks.
Concerned residents at East View Park, a residential area for over-55s, haven’t been reassured since last getting in touch with the Lynn News concerned about the health hazard.
Residents first reported the incident to Anglian Water on December 22.
One of those, who wishes to remain anonymous said: “Repairs have still not taken place on the Anglia Water Sewage system, a tanker is still in place pumping raw sewage from the blocked main sewer.
“It’s really not good enough.”
However, Anglian Water has said that crews are back on the site today (Wednesday) to resolve the issue.
An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to residents in East View Park in West Winch unfortunately we have a damaged sewer in the area which our teams will be attending today to begin repairs.
“Our engineers have been using tankers to take wastewater away so local customers can continue to use their toilets, washing machines and other facilities as normal. We’re aiming to have the repairs completed by the end of this week and we’d like to thank our customers for their patience whilst we carry out this essential work.”
It is not the only problem in the village either, as residents on Watering Lane have experienced flooding yet again after heavy rainfall over the past few days.
At the beginning of December, flooding water had frozen over, causing three people to fall over.
This caused Cllr Alexandra Kemp to urge Norfolk County Council to send out a gully cleanser – which she says could help prevent further flooding.
When this happened, a spokesperson for Norfolk County Council told the Lynn News that they were investigating the cause of the flooding and arranged for one blocked gully to be cleared.
They also said they would liaise with Anglian Water to resolve the issue.
However, when asked for an update on the situation, Norfolk County Council did not respond in time of going to press.
