Floodlights plan for West Norfolk village hall site

Plans have been submitted to install floodlights at a West Norfolk community hub.

Officials say the facility will allow an existing multi-use games area (MUGA) at the Marshland Hall site in Marshland St James to be used all year round.

More than £1 million was spent on the development of the Smeeth Road complex, which opened two years ago.

The new application, if approved by West Norfolk Council officials, would allow for permanent lighting on the MUGA, which covers an area of 30 metres by 20 metres.

Documents submitted as part of the application said: "The existing site is currently used as a MUGA area.

"Due to no floodlighting the operational hours of the space are severely restricted through 6 months of the year.

"The basis for the floodlighting is to allow for more access through the winter months and to provide a safe and quality environment for the use by all ages and genders."

A decision on the application, which was formally validated last Thursday, is expected early in the new year.
