King's Lynn florist set to close its doors after three decades and start afresh
Local florist Bridget's Flowers is set to close its doors after some 35years of trading on 47, St James Street, Lynn.
The florist first opened its doors in September 1985 by well known, local business woman Bridget Nurse, nee Roper
Her daughter Megan Nurse joined the team back in September 2014 and worked alongside Bridget’s parents Josie and Ernie Roper and Bridget’s sister Deborah Roper.
Both Josie, Ernie and Deborah retired some years ago. Megan employed a few new helping hands and decided to follow her key interests in wedding and event floristry, alongside day-to-day flower arranging.
Megan had planned to move away from a town centre store and move into a small industrial style unit in March last year where she would cater only for wedding and event floristry, however, Covid-19 meant that had to be delayed.
She said:" Now is the right time to move. I wanted to move last year but I got so many emailed from panicked couples that I decided to focus and continue with wedding floristry."
The first lockdowns meant she concentrated on bereavement flowers and smaller wedding events once the restrictions eased and now she is back to a fast paced working life again.
She said: "I have three weddings this week, it has gone from small bridal bouquets and couple of button holes to filling a whole church and tables."
Megan also runs masterclasses in village halls where social distancing can still be maintained and these will start to be advertised in September.
She said: "The Christmas wreaths workshops are a big hit. They are for two hours and cost £40 and I supply all the foliage , flowers and materials. They can create a beautiful Christmas wreath and proudly put it on their front door."
Megan has managed to keep the costs down for her customers since the whole sale prices went up as she uses local suppliers and growers and tries to make things much more affordable for people.
She said: "ALl are locally sourced such as roses, and people are happy to embrace the seasons. I am proudly the first local florist to introduce Christmas wreath making workshops back in December 2013 and will be hiring out local village halls over the whole of December to welcome back some familiar faces as well as encourage anyone new to sign on.
“A very heart-felt thank you to each and every customer who has supported our family-run business during its 36 years of trading”.
