Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in Feltwell as control zone declared
Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs(Defra) have issued a declaration of a temporary control zone for Foot and Mouth Disease near Feltwell, Lynn.
The control zone spans a 10km radius which includes Feltwell and Brandon, and is the first outbreak in the UK since 2007.
The declaration came into affect at 10pm last night June 23.
Defra have said: "No person shall move any susceptible animal into or out of a temporary control zone, except where the movement is through the zone without stopping; or necessary to complete a journey started before the creation of the zone.
"No person shall move any susceptible animal from or to premises in a temporary control zone (without leaving that zone) except to complete a journey started before the creation of that zone or under the authority of a licence granted by an inspector."
The government website said: "Following suspicion of vesicular disease in pigs, and as a precaution to prevent the spread of disease, a 10 km temporary control zone has been declared around a premises near Feltwell, Lynn and West Norfolk."
Foot and mouth disease (FMD) affects cloven-hoofed animals including:cattle,sheep,pigs and doesn’t affect humans.
Cattle with foot and mouth disease may develop sores and blisters on the feet,in the mouth,on the tongue. Other clinical signs include,fever,shivering,lameness,slobbering and smacking lips.
