Football fundraiser raises thousands to help Dersingham family after mother Sylwie King’s cancer diagnosis

A fundraiser held in Dersingham at the weekend has netted thousands for a family in need.

Sylwie King, her husband Simon and their two children Charlie, 12, and Tommy, 4, have been left shocked following the devastating news that Sylwie’s cancer has spread to other parts of her body.

Since her diagnosis, friends and members of the public have organised a number of fundraising events to help Simon take some time off work to be with his wife.

Many put their heads together to organise a charity football match which took place on Sunday at Dersingham football pitch.

Around 40 people took to the pitch and made up four teams and around 300 to 400 people came along to show their support.

A total of £6,400 was raised from the day, which also included a raffle, barbecue and live music at the social club.

This will be added to the total of more than £5,000 already raised via a GoFundMe page.

One of the organisers of the match and family friend Paul English said the event was a success.

Paul said: “Simon gave an emotional speech at the club to thank everyone for their hard work.

“They really appreciate the work being done and have said how much it means to them.”

The teams were Bircham and Docking, in tribute to Simon as he used to play and manage there, and Redgate Coacher, named after the team where their son Charlie plays.

Those teams were joined by a Coach and Horses team and a Dersingham team.
