Former Dersingham postmaster Fraser Lindsay given new job at Fairbrother Pharmacy

A postmaster who had to close his village shop last month has taken on a new job.

Fraser Lindsay, who used to run the Dersingham Post Office with his wife Maria, has thanked Fairbrother Pharmacy for offering him a role after his store went under.

He now makes deliveries for the business located in the former Boots building on Hunstanton Road, and was offered the role when director and manager Ravi Patel saw a GoFundMe page dedicated to giving the owners a good send-off.

“We have kept all the previous staff who were there as well, so no one is out of work,” Ravi said.

“We can now offer a free delivery service since we have taken on the previous owner of the Post Office.”

Fraser and Maria had the shop since 2001, but were forced to resign at the beginning of this year following a two-year battle to stay afloat.

The postmaster lost around half of his income on the spot after Royal Mail - a separate organisation to the Post Office - handed him a six-month notice to say they would be withdrawing mail workers from the shop and relocating them to Lynn and Hunstanton.

Various petitions and campaigns were launched to try and keep it open, but ultimately, its final day was on Monday, March 24.

The Post Office has said it has had interest from three different retailers willing to take over and, although it is still in the recruitment phase, hopes to have “good news to share about a replacement branch” soon.

Since joining the Fairbrother team, Fraser has been very grateful.

“It has given me something to focus on rather than going a hundred miles per hour to zero, which I think is really important,” he said.

“We had a paper delivery service at the Post Office for many years, so it has been fairly easy for me to fall back into delivery mode.”

He has been visiting lots of his former customers, who have been pleased to see him.

“They like to think I’ve got something to do,” he added.

Ravi explained that the business is very glad that it could help keep people like Fraser in a job, as well as the others from Dersingham who have been offered new employment.
