The Jolly Brewers pub at Shouldham Thorpe could be turned into home
A popular pub could be turned into a home despite efforts to sell it for nearly £300,000.
West Norfolk Council has received a planning application which is seeking to convert The Jolly Brewers at Shouldham Thorpe into a dwelling.
The pub, which has been closed for some time, is being marketed for sale through estate agents Everard Cole with a guide price of £275,000.
But Scott Smith, the applicant, now hopes to change the use of the former thriving business.
The Jolly Brewers was nominated for a so-called 'Rural Oscar' back in 2019 thanks to customers who visited the Lynn Road pub.
A letter from the Countryside Alliance said that it was "nominated by people who value the remarkable contribution you make to your local area".
It was also named as a finalist in the Great British Pub Awards as ‘Pub Hero of the Year’ following a scheme during Covid lockdowns which saw staff offer the premises out as a temporary vaccination centre.
However, the pub eventually closed its doors for good around 18 months ago.
The planning application is currently out for consultation, with that period ending in early October.
