Four musicians from Great Massingham donate £1,500 to charity
Four musicians from Great Massingham have raised £1,500 to support West Norfolk’s homeless population.
Bob Bones was disappointed by the announcement to clear Windsor’s streets of homeless people for the royal wedding, and instead decided to raise money on their behalf.
Mr Bones along with Julie Bones, Yve Mary Barwood and Thomas Ryan joined together with some 30 musicians to play music throughout the wedding day and raise money for two worthy causes.
The event was held in Bradenham village hall and attracted families during the day and older people in the evening, in all around 200.
The team raised £1,500 which has been split equally between The Purfleet Trust and West Norfolk Deaf Association.
Mr Bones said: “We wanted everyone to join in, and they did. I hope they went home with more understanding of how unfortunate people end up on the street, through no fault of their own.
“Perhaps more important, we raised awareness of the plight of homeless people.”
The Purfleet Trust’s chief executive, Paula Hall said: “It is so heartening when people like Bob and his wife do their bit and raise money for us.
“This kind of support makes us feel that the work we are doing is
appreciated and worthwhile.”
Fundraising for the trust is to continue with sales of ‘Shout for Shelter’ the song which Julie wrote for the occasion and which is now being recorded.
