Freebridge adds to its West Norfolk housing stock

Freebridge Community Housing has taken ownership of a number of new homes for rent and shared ownership across West Norfolk.

It is a major step in the organisation's pledge to meet growing demand for affordable housing in the borough.

There are four properties for rent and two shared ownership homes at Sandpiper Street in Hunstanton, with seven more available for rent due later this month) and two homes for rent and one shared ownership home at Lemuel Burt Way in West Winch.

There will be one home for rent and one shared ownership home at Common Road, Walton Highway, and one home for rent at Sawyers Yard, Brancaster.

Freebridge’s director of development, Paul Newbold, said “Since I arrived at Freebridge at the end of last year I’ve been looking forward to helping increase the number of new homes the organisation develops.

“Frustratingly it's been a very wet winter, but this weather hasn't stopped progress on the various sites where we have new homes being built for us, and it’s really great news that these have properties are now finished and ready for people to move in.”

Acacia Peebles, one of the new tenants who has just moved into a property in Sandpiper Street with her family, said: “It’s been a difficult time for everyone over the last year so it’s good to have something to celebrate! We are really happy to have moved into our new home and are looking forward to settling in over the next few months.”

Freebridge’s chief executive, Anita Jones, said: "In our new five-year strategy, we’re not only pledging to invest millions of pounds in our existing tenants’ homes, but also in providing more homes to meet the growing need for good-quality affordable housing throughout the whole of West Norfolk – with an overall target to build 750 new properties by 2026. We know this is a challenging target, but we believe we can achieve it, and it’s great to start 2021 with a handful of brand-new homes being made available.”
