Great Bircham French Fair a success in run up to 10th anniversary

By Lynn News Reporter

Around £6,000 has been raised for renovations to a village church by this year's Great Bircham French Fair on Saturday, August 10.

The fair is organised annually with all proceeds going towards the St Mary's Church to make it more efficient for the community.

Despite the unfortunate weather, with strong winds and rain causing damage to a few gazebos, organiser Malcolm Sargent said the event was a success with a "great outcome" and "much support from the public".

Around 1,100 people attended, with the numbers being lower than usual due to the weather, although the figures raised were enough to give the community what they needed and more.

All the money raised will specifically go towards replacing the floors, adding more toilets and heating for an overall safer and more convenient church experience.

Malcolm says he is grateful for those who turned up and travelled to the event and wants to "give a big thank you" to everyone who has shown their support.

Despite this, he said there was also a slight shortage in people helping out at the event and said it would be beneficial to have more helpers next year.

This annual fair will mark its 10 year anniversary next year, and it is hoped the 2020 fair will help them reach their goal of renovating the church fully, and that the weather and number of helpers improves for a bigger turn out.
