Hunstanton Friday Friendship Group for those feeling isolated or alone would welcome new members
Anyone feeling isolated or alone is encouraged to come along to the Friday Friendship Group.
The group, which runs under the umbrella of Hunstanton Town Council, offers a place where people of all ages meet once a week to have a friendly chat and get to know others.
It is based in the Hunstanton Community Centre, held on a Friday between 10.30am and 12 noon.
There is a small charge of £1.50 which pays for food and outings and is payable on a pay-as-you-come basis – there is no subscription to join.
It is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere and members are encouraged to do as much or as little as they like. Some like to just sit and chat or knit, whilst others like to be more involved in activities, such as the monthly quiz, which are held on the last Friday of each month, with a prize for the winner.
Already booked for February is a fish and chip lunch on February 2 (which is held up to four times a year), a visit from a therapy dog on February 9, with a monthly quiz on February 23.
On October 4, the group will be holding a MacMillan Coffee Morning in Hunstanton Town Hall.
Each year a coach outing is organised, which has previously seen members spend a day at Springfields Outlet at Spalding.
The group is open to everyone, and they would like to encourage some young families to join.
If they had enough families, they would look at introducing a children’s activity corner, where they could have colouring books and other age-related activities, but this would be open to suggestions from those attending.
This would be an opportunity for young families to meet others on an informal and friendly basis.
If you feel this is for you or know of an isolated or lonely family member or neighbour, let them know about this group.
If you feel unable to talk on the phone then you are more than welcome to just turn up on the day, either
alone, where you would be met by one of the friendly committee members, or with someone to assist you.
