Fuel products firm set to develop new site
A company which sells fuel products from a site at Whittington Hill has become so busy that it plans to move and develop a larger site next door.
Big K Products has bought the adjacent11-acre piggeries and has submitted its development proposals to West Norfolk planners.
The plan is to demolish the existing piggery buildings and construct industrial buildings to provide additional warehousing and storage for timber-based fuel and charcoal products.
There would also be processing buildings, an office and amenity block, a weighbridge, staff and visitor car parking space, log storage lanes and other associated works including landscaping.
Simon Wood, who is the general manager, said: “Big K has seen great growth since we moved to our current site at Whittington Hill in the late 80’s but we never thought that we would outgrow this site.
“However, the growth in the BBQ market and fire wood for both home and restaurant use has been fantastic. This, coupled with recent changes in legislation to make the burning of fire wood cleaner, has meant that we have been looking for additional space to extend our business for a couple of years.
“When the old pig farm next to our current site became available we knew it was the perfect opportunity for us to expand our warehousing without having to re-locate. We are very excited that we have this opportunity to develop in the local area.”
The home BBQ industry grew in the mid 1990s, and Big K began to add high quality instant light and all-in-one barbeque products to their range.
These easy-to-use products made BBQing a breeze, helping even more people to fire up the flavour for themselves.
The last 15 years has seen the industry go from strength to strength, and Big K has evolved along with it.
Their Norfolk site has three production lines packing summer, winter and restaurant products and are fuelling all those special moments in life – all year round.
