Fury at A47 verge spraying

By Lynn News Reporter

Marshland North county councillor Sandra Squire has voiced her anger over Highways England spraying A47 verges between Lynn and Norwich with “nasty” weedkiller.

And she’s determined to try and prevent it happening again in the autumn, as planned.

Ms Squire said the spraying went against the council’s pollinator action plan. “We look after our verges and balance safety with the environment,” she said.

“When I drove to the council last week I couldn’t believe it - all around the road signs and in the lay-bys was just miles and miles of brown and dead areas.”

Ms Squire, who is also a borough councillor for Terrington, said cutting and strimming would prevent “this wilful destruction”.

Highways England said it took a “balanced, responsible approach” and the work was necessary to keep signs and drains clear.
