Future of Outwell dog breeding business on Basin Road deferred to next planning meeting

The future of a dog breeding business remains uncertain after councillors chose to defer their vote.

The breeders in Basin Road, Outwell, faced an enforcement investigation after it was found the facility had been constructed without prior permission from the local authority.

West Norfolk Council members were set to determine their fate but decided they were unable to make an informed decision due to a lack of information about the number of animals that would be bred per year.

A retrospective planning application has been made for the kennels which would keep 16 dogs on site, which was met with angry objections from locals.

They have complained the noise of barking dogs would cause “significant disturbance” to neighbours.

Officers have recommended the bid be approved despite the local concern.

Members of the planning committee raised these concerns but after discrepancies were found in the officer’s report about the number of visitors and litters of puppies a year, it was decided it should be revisited.
