Gaywood Library hosts themed day of family fun

Youngsters were treated to a morning based on the theme of a popular children's book at the weekend.

Craft activities and stories were on offer at the Gaywood library on Saturday to mark Elmer Day in one of hundreds of similar events taking place around the country.

Around 25 children attended with their families to celebrate the day.

A spokeswoman said: "The team created a treasure hunt around the library to find the hidden letters that spelled 'elephant' and we had colouring and puzzles with an Elmer theme."

She said the children also helped colour in a large Elmer cut out which is now displayed at the children's area of the library.

The event is an annual celebration of the books of the patchwork elephant character created almost 25 years ago by author David McKee.
