GCSE English success at Hunstanton’s Smithdon High School in 2014

In our weekly Memory Lane Schooldays feature we look back at GCSE exam results in January 2014...

Pupils and staff at Hunstanton’s Smithdon High School were celebrating in January 2014 after Year 11 took their English GCSE exam two terms early – and an astonishing 86 per cent passed with a grade C or above.

The head teacher, Jon Goodchild, praising staff and students, said that sitting the exam early benefited pupils by preparing them for the summer examinations.

Also, getting one pass under their belts would build their confidence. Students who did not get a C grade would still be able to take the exam again in the summer.

But Mr Goodchild warned that new rules would mean pupils not being allowed to sit any exams before the summer.
