GCSE RESULTS 2018: Top English grades up 10 per cent at Downham Academy
There has been plenty for students and staff of the Downham Academy to celebrate this morning after the publication of GCSE results.
Seventy-two per cent of students achieved higher 9-4 grades in English, up 10 per cent on last year, with 62 per cent reaching those standards in maths.
Principal Rolf Purvis said the results were "very pleasing" and progress 8 scores, which measure the progress made by students during their time at the school also looked encouraging.
He added: "There were 33 grade 9s, across subjects including English and Maths, Languages, Sciences and Humanities as well as subjects like Art and RE.
"Vocational subjects are strong with high grades in subjects such as Engineering where nearly half the students achieved at least a Distinction."
Town MP Elizabeth Truss was also among those joining the celebrations as she visited the school this morning and met both students and staff.
