GCSE Results Day 2023: Staff at Downham Market Academy ‘incredibly proud’ of students as they receive grades
Staff at Downham Market Academy have said they are “incredibly proud” of how its students tackled GCSE exams after they received their results yesterday.
The school has not disclosed its overall results this year, but officials said there had been “very positive results” in certain subjects.
“We are incredibly proud of how our students have risen to the challenge of exams this summer,” head teacher Mark Eastwood said.
“Having started their courses amidst lots of post-pandemic disruption, everyone worked hard to prepare for their exams.
“We are particularly pleased to see continued success in both Art and Drama where students benefit from exceptional teaching and experiences throughout their time at Downham Market Academy – it is no wonder that these are popular choices at our sixth form, Athena.
“There were also very positive results in French, Computing and Sports Science.”
Students who did exceptionally well include Lily Rolfe, Tyler Walker, Joseph Kosecki, Sophie Briffit, Wes Cole, Sophie Parle, Elizabeth Shaw and Ben Lincoln.
Mr Eastwood said staff were glad that many of the secondary school pupils were continuing their studies in Downham at its Athena Sixth Form.
“We’re really pleased that so many of our students will remain at Athena Sixth Form studying across the range of our subjects that include A-Levels and vocational courses,” he said.
”The Extended Diploma in Sports Science is popular once again with students being able to link this to Norwich City Football Club and benefit from specialist coaching and nationwide matches or just study for the academic course.”
