GCSE Results Day 2024: Smithdon High School in Hunstanton sees Maths remain as its strongest subject
Maths continues to be Smithdon High School’s strongest subject on this year’s GCSE results day.
The Hunstanton school has celebrated great results across all ability ranges, said head teacher Amanda Gibbins.
"Results day is the culmination of all students’ time at Smithdon and is one of my favourite days of the year," she said.
"Having the privilege to be a part of the students’ excitement as they prepare to go on to their next steps is just amazing.”
Smithdon's head students, Izzy Mears and Isaac Minns, were in the top six of the high school’s best results with Isaac achieving two 8s and a 9 in History and Izzy receiving three 6s, two 8s and a Level 2 Distinction*.
“I was a bit nervous coming in to collect my results today but I felt that I was going to be all right,” said Isaac, who hopes to take up an apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering.
Mia Jackson achieved Smithdon’s best scores, with five 8s and a Level 2 Distinction in Health and Social Care.
Mia Rodrigues was a close second with two 8s, a 9 in RE and a Level 2 Distinction in Health and Social Care.
“I did better than expected,” said Mia Jackson, who is off to Lynn’s Springwood Sixth Form in September to study Biology, Psychology and Maths.
Mia Rodrigues is still deciding what she wants to do next but said: “Smithdon has been a great space for me to grow as a person. The teachers adapted their teaching to how you learn best.”
Other great results came from Kenzie Kellingray, Amy Dade and Summer Doughty-Bingham.
Steve Chapman, assistant head teacher of curriculum, said: “Year 11’s approach to the exams this year was outstanding and the students’ results reflect the hard work and focused determination shown throughout their studies.”
