Girls, aged eight and six, covering equivalent of two marathons for Scotty's Little Soldiers
Two Swaffham girls are covering the equivalent of two marathons this month to raise funds supporting young people who have lost a parent when serving in the armed forces.
Chloe and Eloise Holmes, aged eight and six respectively, will be walking, cycling and running more than 50 miles in aid of Lynn-based national charity Scotty's Little Soldiers.
As of Friday, the girls had already covered 25 miles which mainly consisted of walking.
Their father, Brendan Holmes, is a town councillor and former trustee of Scotty's, which is dedicated to supporting bereaved British Forces children and young people.
Mr Holmes said: "There are quite a few routes and lanes around Swaffham with hardly anyone around so it has been nice and peaceful.
"We talk about things [relating to Scotty's] around them and they listen to some of the stories of the kids who struggle with emotional support.
"Scotty's have been doing the May Marathon fundraiser for a while now but with there being no London Marathon this year, people are having to think outside the box to raise money."
The charity's annual Month of May Marathon encourages fundraisers to conquer a marathon throughout May in a way that suits them best.
And Mr Holmes said the challenge has also been beneficial to his daughters during lockdown.
"It is really important to get outside and to not be stuck between four walls," he said. "We can talk when we are outside and look at nature. Exercising is so good for mental health."
The father said Chloe and Eloise have been walking between four and six miles at one time with the potential to try "one really big day" soon as part of the fundraiser.
Mr Holmes added that it was heartening to see anonymous people donate to the cause even if they do not personally know the family.
A Just Giving page has been set up which can be found at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/brendan-holmes and which has a target of £1,150.
