A West Norfolk butcher is celebrating after his horse won one of the world’s most prestigious sprint races this afternoon.

Goldream, co-owned by Jeff Sargeant from Stow Bridge, claimed the Group One Prix de l’Abbaye at Longchamp today, following up his win in the King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

The six-year-old is trained in Newmarket by Robert Cowell, who said shortly afterwards: “That’s outstanding, that was brilliant.

“I know he is good but to win two Group Ones in a season is pretty outstanding stuff.

“He has been working absolutely brilliantly. We worked him 12 days ago at Newmarket with a horse called Speed Hawk, who was beaten a nose at Ascot yesterday, and he hacked all over it.

“I don’t think he needed a prep run, he just needed a run.”

“We waited for the weather to come right without a run and today’s conditions were perfect for him.“

“He was going to go to the sales but now he will go to Dubai.”
