Eat My Words: Food review at Liquor and Loaded in King’s Lynn

A unique setting, some huge portions and a couple of brilliant songs made a Lynn restaurant the perfect place to take some visiting friends.

With two of my pals coming down from Scotland, we decided to give Liquor and Loaded a try - and we weren’t left disappointed.

It was a gorgeous evening, so drinks were high on our agenda to start with at the Tower Street venue.

I went for the Davy Jones Locker cocktail, which both looked and tasted the part, while Stephen chose the Twisted Godfather - which he said was a nice spin on one of his favourite drinks.

Rory washed his meal down with the ‘Prissy Lil B*tch’ cocktail. He enjoyed it, but admitted it was a bit too sweet for his liking.

Our meals arrived while we were still sipping those, which is always ideal. It was smart not to go for anything too heavy drinks-wise, because the portions were very generous.

My Mac Dog was everything I hoped it would be, with a huge butcher’s sausage being covered with delicious bacon, crispy onions and macaroni cheese.

It was all packed into a crunchy bread roll, and served with crispy chips, it was the perfect meal for a sunny night.

Stephen went for the meat feast pizza bread, also served with chips, which had barbecue pulled pork, pepperoni, ham, peppers and mozzarella stacked on top.

He was pleasantly surprised at how well-made it was, although he couldn’t quite finish it all off - quite the surprise for us.

Rory opted for the barbecue pulled pork waffle stack, which came garnished with maple bacon, a sausage patty and a hash brown.

It didn’t blow him away, but it was “nice enough” - and certainly did a job in filling him up.

As if that wasn’t enough, the three of us also ordered three sides to share between us. We tucked into onion rings, salt and pepper chicken, and barbecue chicken wings - Rory felt these were the highlight of the meal.

Stephen conceded that his eyes had been a little bigger than his belly, as he struggled to eat any of them, but I felt that they complimented our main courses well.

The atmosphere in the outside area, where we were sat in a heated pod, was brilliant, and probably the highlight of our night.

Stephen and I were particularly impressed by the music, which - as you’d expect - suited the Liquor and Loaded vibe down to a tee. Some Guns N’ Roses and Van Halen tunes were the stand-out.

Staff were friendly throughout, even if service was a little slow at points. However, it never detracted from our enjoyment.

It is a little bit on the expensive side - even though we ordered a fair amount, our bill was higher than we thought it might be. However, as a treat, it was probably worth it.

The boys have gone back to Scotland now, but I’ll certainly be returning to Liquor and Loaded at some stage. Good food and good music is always a difficult combination to beat.
