GCSE Results Day 2024: Downham Market Academy’s grades show ‘testament to all the hard work and dedication’ of students
Students and staff at Downham Market Academy are celebrating some excellent GCSE results after much hard work.
Teachers were “impressed by the commitment of students and support from parents and extended families” as students attended all the additional lessons both before and after school that staff arranged.
Mark Eastwood, the school’s head teacher, said: “We are absolutely delighted with these results that are a testament to all the hard work and dedication of our students during their time at DMA.”
Among the students receiving their results this morning was Ellen Buckley, who was most proud of herself for receiving a 9 in Maths along with a 7 in English Language, an 8 in English Literature as well as a 9 in Science.
She said: “I had a bet with my brother that I would get a nine so I won my bet.
“I am really happy with all my results, I got everything I wanted to.”
Ellen will move on to study T-level Nursing at the College of West Anglia in Lynn.
Meanwhile, Christina Fletcher was ecstatic about receiving high grades in subjects she wants to go on to study further.
She got grade 9s in Biology, Chemistry, and Geography and will now be going on to study these three subjects in sixth form.
Christina said: “I am really happy because the grade boundaries have been quite challenging the past few years due to Covid so I was a bit unsure what the grades would be like this year.”
Another proud student is Joshua Secker, who was very happy about achieving a 9 in Maths.
He said: “I have done better than I thought I would have done. Overall I am very happy with what I got.”
Joshua will be taking his place at sixth form to study A-levels in Economics, Business, and Sports.
Achieving a grade 9 in both Art and Maths was Ruby Neale who was very proud of her accomplishments.
She said: “I am feeling very good. The grades were along with what I expected so I am happy with them.
Ruby will now be going on to sixth form to study Maths, Art, and Sociology.
Ella Howard “achieved outstanding results”, particularly in Drama with a grade 9, and will be continuing this by studying Theatre Studies, Psychology, and Criminology at the school's sixth form.
She was also proud of achieving a 7 in Ancient History and a 6 in Maths.
Ella said: “I was worried I was not going to get a high grade in Maths as it was a quite hard test.
“I was thinking lower in my head as I did not want to disappoint myself if the grades were lower but I am really happy with them, I was surprised with the grades I’ve got.”
Mr Eastwood added: “We are looking forward to welcoming many of our own students and those from further afield, back to study for A-levels and other exciting vocational courses at Athena Sixth Form College in September.”
