Terrington man makes final journey by horse-drawn cart
A loving granddaughter knew just how her grandad would have liked to make his final journey to his funeral service.
John Jackson's coffin travelled the last few miles to the crematorium on a farm cart drawn by a magnificent Shire horse with granddaughter Sophie Bartram at the reins.
“He would have been so proud,” she said.
John, aged 80, lived at Terrington St Clement, and although he spent most of his working life as a lorry driver, he also had a great affinity with horses.
Sophie, 25, is a farrier and has been brought up with horses.
“John followed her progress and went to shows and events with us” said Sophie's mum Claire.
Claire said that the coffin was transferred from funeral director Thornalley's hearse to the dray at Gayton Road cemetery and they made their way from there to Mintlyn.
Major, the Shire, belongs to Claire and her family and is well experienced at appearing at major occasions. Sophie and Major were also accompanied by Kate Mitchell and Harry Timmins.
“It was so impressive. John would have loved it. It was such a fitting send-off,” said Claire.
