Owners of Mabel Bakery in Downham Market thank community as it announces reopening date following electrical fire
Owners of a town centre bakery which suffered an electrical fire say they are “grateful” as community support has helped to get them back up and running.
Mabel Bakery in Downham announced its sudden closure a couple of weeks ago when it was left without power due to the building catching alight.
However, Lucy Peacock and Dan Frazer, who only opened the shop in March, have revealed that they will now be able to open on Thursday.
Firefighters rushed to the blaze at 6.18am on Friday, November 15 and at the time the pair described it as “straight from the plot of a Christmas movie” saying they were in need of a “miracle”.
Now, their wishes have come true.
“We want to take a moment to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone for your incredible support during our two-week hiatus after the fire at the bakery,” they said on Facebook.
“Your kind messages, recommendations for electricians, builders, and pop-up spaces, and overall encouragement helped us get back on our feet faster than we could’ve hoped.”
They also added that the repair costs were able to be covered thanks to people taking part in their raffle, which was set up last week, and have decided to continue it through December to show their appreciation.
“Once again, thank you for being such an amazing community. Your support is everything to us, and it’s why we do what we do,” the post added.
“Special shout out to @woodwardandson_building and to David at G Sides Electrical Ltd who did a fantastic job working round the clock to get us back up and running.”
