Grease boosts Heather’s fight

LEARN MORERotarians in Downham have boosted the bid to send a town woman to the United States for potentially lifesaving treatment.
The plight of Heather Bellamy first hit the headlines in January when an appeal to raise £250,000 for leukaemia was launched.
Tens of thousands of pounds have been raised since then and the total has been further boosted by the first donation from a Grease and Prosecco evening, hosted by the town’s Rotary Club, at the town hall.
Around £2,500 was raised in total during the event.
And the club said: “This was Rotary’s second ‘big event’ during the past six months aimed at raising money to give to local good causes.
“Over the coming months various sums will be given to help causes in Downham.
“However, Rotary decided the first donation, of £1,000, must go to the campaign that has rallied the Town; to send Heather Bellamy to Texas where she can receive treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia.”
