Swaffham's lockdown garden competition to be rounded off with Covid-secure ceremony
A Covid-secure prize-giving ceremony will take place this weekend to round off a popular garden competition which has taken place in a market town during the pandemic period.
The High Sheriff of Norfolk, Lady Roberts, and Swaffham mayor, Jill Skinner will present prizes to the winners of the 'Swaffham Covid Garden Competition' at the Buttercross in the market place on Sunday.
The gardeners of Swaffham were invited to enter the competition by submitting five photos and a video during lockdown in June.
The competition was thought up by town councillor Lindsay Beech.
Mrs Skinner said: "We are very proud of what our gardeners have managed to achieve during lockdown. Thanks to them, Swaffham is now a more beautiful place to live.
"My thanks also go to Alan Gray, of East Ruston Old Vicarage Gardens and a regular guest on Radio Norfolk’s Saturday morning show 'The Garden Party' for kindly judging our competition."
A town council spokesperson added: "The event has been very popular and well supported in the town.
"Swaffham Town Council, local businesses, garden centres and market traders are delighted to reward the amazing gardening efforts of its residents, young and old, this year."
