Creake Abbey Plant Lover’s Day sees younger generation of green-fingered enthusiasts at horticultural event

A new generation of younger green-fingered buyers attended the latest Plant Lover’s Day at Creake Abbey.

Last month, some 1000 visitors flocked to the popular annual event, near Burnham Market, including a noticeable increase in young visitors.

Lucy Jillings said: “I am more of an outdoor garden person. I am in the garden every day and I am mad about roses.“

Diana Brocklebank Scott, organiser of this event at Creake Abbey, said: “I think this is really due to two things, undoubtedly the impact of the pandemic where everyone was forced to re-examine their living environments, both within the home and also outside in their gardens, but also the impact of social media.

“It is now cool to have a room full of houseplants and this genuine interest in horticulture amongst the younger generation is very exciting indeed.’
