Hunstanton High School student Hannah Burton raises almost £3,000 for children’s cancer charity

A teenager who has been selling handmade paper flowers since she was eight has raised more than £18,000 to date.

Hannah Burton, 16, a student at Hunstanton’s Smithdon High School, has been selling her paper flower creations across a number of West Norfolk businesses.

And last Monday, she presented a cheque for her latest fundraising efforts to Lady Romney on behalf of Children with Cancer charity.

Hannah was inspired to start raising money after two of her cousins were diagnosed with cancer.

Despite being busy preparing for her GCSE exams and working towards her black belt in Tang Soo Do, Hannah raised £2,771.45, bringing her fundraising total to £18,145.52.

Hannah’s grandmother Monica Burton said: “She has been really busy, her grandad has been unwell and working towards her black belt and GCSEs, and she’s just started working. She doesn’t like being still. I’m very proud of her.”

Hannah and family members were also joined by West Norfolk mayor Margaret Wilkinson and Hunstanton mayor Michael Ruston at Hunstanton’s Honeystone pub to celebrate and present the cheque.

Hannah’s roses and other decorations have been sold in shops and pubs across the borough including in Hunstanton and Fakenham.

Monica thanked the Honeystone for hosting the presentation each year.

“They sell most of the roses as well,” Monica added.
