Have your say on vision for revitalising Hunstanton

People who visit or live in Hunstanton are being invited to share their views on how they believe part of the resort should be developed.

Earlier this year, West Norfolk Council commissioned HemingwayDesign to come up with a vision for the future of the town’s southern seafront.

Now, the company has launched an online survey to gauge public views and has appealed for residents and holidaymakers to take part.

Wayne Hemingway said: “Hunstanton is a unique place with a distinctive character and rich Victorian heritage.

“The aim of the redevelopment is to enhance the seaside resort by re-enlivening its leisure and tourist attractions and to restore its once strong personality. This could be a driver of really positive change for the town, its economy, culture and profile.

“To really get to the heart of what the southern seafront could become, we need the help of as many people as possible – from residents and visitors, to businesses and schools.

“We need to reach out to the wider community to get the views of young and old and reflect what people want from a seaside resort. The more people we can encourage to ‘come design with us’, the more interesting and relevant the result will be.”

The survey was launched by town mayor Amanda Bosworth at the tourist information centre on Wednesday.

She said: “I hope that the project will enhance the appearance and amenities of the southern seafront, widening its appeal for residents and visitors of all ages and encouraging them to enjoy the promenade throughout the year.

“Personally, I would like to see imaginative and innovative plans that are particular to Hunstanton, reflecting the heritage and values of this traditional market town.

“I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to put forward their own ideas, whether through the portal, in writing or in person.

People can take part in the exercise by visiting hemingwaydesign.co.uk/hunstanton-south-beach. The survey will be open for several weeks.

Peter Hodson, West Norfolk Council’s cabinet member for regeneration, said: “We have already held an initial visioning event where many local stakeholders came to provide ideas about how they saw Hunstanton developing.

“This information has been used as the basis for the portal questions. We now want as many people as possible to participate, so please do encourage your friends, family, work colleagues and acquaintances to go online and complete our survey.”
