Dersingham man caught with cannabis after drug deal in King’s Lynn
The solicitor of a man caught with Class B drugs admitted his client is “not a professional at this sort of thing”.
Christopher Harrisson, 48, of Pansey Drive in Dersingham, appeared at Lynn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with possession of cannabis.
He pleaded guilty to the offence, which he committed on March 31 this year.
Crown prosecutor Colette Harper told magistrates that during lunchtime hours on that date, Harrisson was witnessed trying to access a block of flats in Lynn while on the phone.
Ms Harper said the property in question is known to be linked to drug supply. Shortly after Harrisson left the scene, he was caught by police.
He was asked where he had been, and the cannabis he had purchased was found not long afterwards – leading to his arrest.
In mitigation, George Sorrell handed magistrates a letter from Harrisson’s doctor.
The solicitor said: “I haven’t really got anything to add, but I would like to say this. It is the first time that I can ever remember a GP writing a letter like this on behalf of a patient.
“I have never seen anything like it. It really does give some insight into his predicament.”
On Harrisson being arrested by police shortly after obtaining the drugs, Mr Sorrell added: “He was caught because he went for this quantity from this well-known source.
“You can see he is not in any way a professional at this sort of thing.”
Magistrates, led by Alan Hayes, handed Harrisson a 12 month conditional discharge for his offence.
He will also pay a £26 victim surcharge and £60 in legal costs, while an order was made for the forfeiture and destruction of the drugs.
