Healthcare workers at King’s Lynn hospital put patients first with 13-mile coastal challenge
Healthcare workers swapped their uniforms and stethoscopes for t-shirts and trainers to take on a walking challenge and raise funds for patients.
The dedicated NHS workers at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, along with family and friends, completed a 13-mile coastal walk last weekend from Wells-next-the-Sea to Burnham Overy Staithe, and back, to raise the cash.
A total of £1,868.75 was collected, which will go to support essential reconditioning and exercise therapy for patients living with cognitive impairment, such as dementia, and frailty.
Led by Dr Katie Honney and her dedicated dementia specialist team, walkers set off at 8am and finally put their feet up at 2.30pm, making the most of the changeable early summer day and the spectacular natural surroundings.
The route included the serene tidal creeks and salt marshes of Burnham Overy Staithe, Holkham’s vast expanse of golden sand, and the picturesque beach huts at Wells.
Walkers enjoyed a well-deserved pit stop at The Hero pub in Burham Overy Staithe, while the Holkham Estate generously provided free parking for all participants.
Dr Honney said: “This was more than just a walk; it was a show of solidarity and commitment to our patients. The funds raised will make a tangible difference to the lives of those we care for every day.
“The money will ensure the continuation and enhancement of therapeutic services at the QEH, empowering patients to regain strength, mobility, and independence.”
Samantha Taylor, charity manager at the hospital, said: “A heartfelt thanks to all donors, supporters, and participants who made this remarkable day possible.”
