Downham Market's Discover Downham Heritage Centre to host talk from Charlotte Paton on Zelia Hoffman
Discover Downham Heritage Centre is hosting a talk on Wednesday about an American-born horticulturist who moved to Britain and became an influential politician.
In Zelia Hoffman (1867-1929) An American Abroad, Charlotte Paton outlines the life of Zelia Hoffman who founded the International Garden Club.
She organised a major flower show in New York and was a galvanizing force in efforts to open formal gardens to the public.
She moved to Norfolk in 1919 and became vice-president of the North Norfolk Liberal Association and president of the North Ward branch.
She was Liberal candidate for the North Norfolk division at the 1929 general election but died just months afterwards.
The talk, organised by Downham Heritage Society, starts at 7.30pm.
