Hillington Square Summer Fete to stay dry in alcohol dispute
Residents from a Lynn community will gather for their annual summer fete tomorrow but without one of the areas attractions.
Church leaders say The Fathers Arms Bar, which is associated with All Saints Church, in Hillington Square, will not open during Saturday’s event because of what claims to be opposition from its housing owners, Freebridge Community Housing.
The company has denied these claims, but admits talks have taken place over whether such an attraction would be “appropriate”.
A spokesman from Freebridge Community Housing said: “ I can confirm that we have had a conversation with Father Adrian about the sale of alcohol on Saturday.
“While we did not directly oppose it happening we did suggest that it perhaps wasn’t the best fit for a fete which is organised as a fun family-friendly event.”
The Hillington Square summer fete, which takes place tomorrow from 12pm to 3pm, is expected to be “packed with food and fun for all the family, with music and games”.
Now in its fifth year, there will be entertainment from the Simon Rowe’d Show, Rollo The Entertainer, local singer Emily Blake, owls from Dawn ‘Til Dusk and the Square will even be invaded by a Dalek from Doctor Who.
Borough mayor Nick Daubney will also be in attendance to support the fete and take part in some of the activities on offer.
King’s Lynn Round Table 54 are on barbecue duties, and King’s Lynn’s Police Cadets along with Red Watch from Norfolk’s Fire Service will also be in attendance on the day.
And there is a raffle to raise money for the King’s Lynn Food Bank with prizes generously donated from a number of local businesses.
