Pupils at Hilgay Riverside Academy left inspired by visit from Invictus athlete Rich Potter
School youngsters were treated to an inspiring day as they welcomed an Invictus Games athlete and former serviceman.
Pupils at Hilgay Riverside Academy welcomed Rich Potter for a special event aimed at promoting fitness and determination.
The day included sponsored fitness circuits, where students had the chance to exercise alongside Rich, raising money for both the school and Great Britain athletes.
The event, supported by family and friends, was a resounding success, with almost £1,500 raised.
The funds will go towards school sports equipment, while a portion of the proceeds will help support GB athletes.
Rich Potter, who lost his left leg due to an injury sustained during his military career, shared his personal story of perseverance.
After serving in the Army, he turned his focus to the Invictus Games, a global event which celebrates the strength and determination of wounded and injured servicemen and women.
His journey from injury to competing on the world stage offered the students a powerful message: ‘Never give up, no matter the challenges’.
During his talk, Rich emphasized the importance of “aiming high, always striving for the best, and overcoming obstacles”.
Sarah Turner, head teacher at Hilgay Riverside Academy, said: “Rich’s visit not only motivated our pupils to embrace fitness and health but also gave them a valuable lesson in resilience and determination.
“His story will stay with us for a long time.”
The day was filled with laughter, encouragement, and a sense of community as the school came together to support a great cause.
