Household items project in Downham Market
Downham is part of a project running in West Norfolk libraries to support households in need and the homeless this winter.
In 2017, Norfolk Libraries launched Tricky Period, providing free sanitary products, available for people to take from libraries and mobile libraries.
Towards the end of 2020, funding was received from the Norfolk Assistance Scheme (NAS) to adapt Tricky Period so products were available in Grab-and-Go bags and provide Toiletries-To-Go which are free essential toiletries, also in Grab-and-Go bags.
Fran Valentine, library and information manager said: "The Household Support fund has enabled us to expand the Tricky Period and Toiletries-To-Go schemes further and we have added Keep Warm-And-Go Bags and Cleaning-To-Go bags.
"We’ll also be providing waterproof blankets for homeless people and adding extra hot drinks, soup and hot chocolate and wrapped snacks to our Just-a-Cuppa sessions on Friday mornings from 10.30 at Downham Market library.
"Bags can simply be picked up in the library, no questions asked or proof of need required.
"If people cannot find the bag they’re after or need a waterproof blanket they can speak to a member of the team."
Until the end of March 2022, all Norfolk libraries are providing the To-Go bags which include sanitary items, toiletries, warm clothing, cleaning products and emergency-survival blankets-waterproof blankets and all libraries have emergency blankets for homeless people.
