How businesses can avoid expensive employment tribunal claims

Employment Tribunal (ET) claims increased by 26 per cent last year, partly as a result of a ruling in the Supreme Court that means that there is no cost to making a claim.

The business and working environment has also been difficult (opening, closing, re-opening, and Covid protocols) throughout the pandemic which has revealed that some firms lack necessary people management processes and systems.

Getting it wrong can be costly: earlier this week I was required to attend an Employment Tribunal Hearing in Cambridge representing one of our clients. The case involved an ex-employee claiming non-payment of wages from the client.
