How nostalgia for 90s car culture saw one Downham Market man featured in a short film with popular YouTube star
With 90s fashions and trends popular once more over the last few years, cars from the decade were bound to make a comeback too - and it seems like they have.
Sam Harris from Downham showed off his 1990 MK2 Polo as part of a short film dedicated to cars that made the 90s.
Along with popular YouTube personality, Damian from CarGuysTV, the professional DJ showed off his kammback-styled hatchback in the 15-minute video, which has more than 220k views.
“It just feels very in touch with the roads, puts a smile on my face every time I drive it,” he revealed in the short film.
Featured driving around in his retro ride, with its recognisable red colour and distinctive design, Mr Harris spoke to Influx about his love for the era his car came from.
“I used to go to a lot of car shows and I saw a lot of different modifications and lots of things I liked, and I never really had the money or the drive to do it,” he said.
”I think now, I'm sort of pleased I didn't because the nostalgia is still there and people appreciate that a lot more.”
The MK2 Polo was produced between 1981 and 1994, with Mr Harris’ model being a few years older than him.
“I've met the original owner and him seeing the car there and not in a scrapyard was quite a nice feeling. It has the original styling, carpets and everything so it was a quite a feat to keep that I think.”
