Hunstanton guesthouse owners make a donation to the RNLI after creating hundreds of face masks

Guesthouse owners from Hunstanton who have made hundreds of face masks have boosted funds for a charity on their doorstep.

Sandy and Bob Duff-Dick, who run the Rosamaly Guesthouse, donated £500 to the Hunstanton RNLI lifeboat station where grandson Josh Haycock is a crew member. They also donated a large box of the face masks for crew members to wear on board their craft and to sell at the RNLI shop located there.

Said Sandy: "We really support the lifeboat, it's such a good cause. It has been particularly busy this year. It's good to support charities which don't get money from anywhere else and rely on donations."

Sandy and Bob started making face masks at the beginning of the lockdown for family and friends as well as for the wider community, including a "huge batch" for Lynn's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

"People asked me if I could make them because they know I am good at sewing. It was costing so much money in materials and I was paying out of my savings, so we set up Hunstanton Face Masks and now sell them at £5 each, although we have already donated hundreds of them.

"I think people have got used to wearing them now and I think some children and teenagers have grown to quite like them. They have to wear them on the bus to travel to school."

Sandy and Bob, who is her "chief cutter", have made masks for Halloween and following on from that are designing ones for the festive season.

"I think people like having something which is a bit different and if people are dressing up, it's nice to have a 'dressy' mask too. We're thinking of making some glitzy ones for Christmas," said Sandy.

Sandy and Bob have also embarked on crafting their own wooden toys as Christmas presents for family and friends.

They have run the guesthouse for 32 years and had to close after lockdown until mid-July. Although they are open again, it's now a quiet time of the year, she said.
