Coronavirus: Searles Leisure Resort in Hunstanton announces closure
Hunstanton's Searles Leisure Resort closed its site yesterday for "the foreseeable future" and today has said it will operate with minimal staff for maintenance and to deal with booking queries.
The resort said in an announcement on its website that it was "committed to trying to help beat the spread of this terrible virus."
Earlier this week holiday park operator Parkdean Resorts which has sites in Hunstanton and Heacham, said it had decided to close its doors.
Searles said today: "Following the Government announcement last night advising everyone to stay at home we are now operating Searles Leisure Resort on a minimal staffing level, this is to allow us to maintain the resort and administer booking queries and contact our guests.
"We will be contacting guests due to stay with us in the next few weeks, due to the reduced staff level this may take longer than first envisaged." It said monies will not be lost and will be credited to use at a later date or until other options had been discussed.
When it announced its decision yesterday, Searles said the safety of customers, staff and suppliers came first.
"Therefore, in accordance with government's advice, to avoid unnecessary contact, close social proximity and non-essential travel, we have taken the unprecedented precaution of closing Searles Leisure Resort for the foreseeable future," it said.
Its reservations team will be contacting customers with bookings starting before the April 19 as a priority to offer to move, credit or refund the booking.
It appealed for people who were in a position to move or credit bookings to do so. "This would not only support Searles, but also the local businesses that rely on our resort and tourism in the area," it said.
It requested that people with bookings to stay after April 19 do not contact the resort to allow staff time to contact imminent arrivals. Those due to stay after that date can keep their reservation in place and make a decision nearer the time.
