A 60ft barge with two people aboard had to be towed to safety in heavy seas in the wash yesterday afternoon.
The Humber Coastguard called out Hunstanton Lifeboat just before noon to assist the barge which was bound from Boston to Lowestoft but ran into difficulties near the Roaring Middle light.
Hunstanton’s volunteer crew arrived on scene at 12.20pm and put a crew member on the barge to assess the situation.
When the Skegness lifeboat arrived, the Hunstanton crew helped in securing a towline and the barge was towed to Boston.
Four hours later a dog was rescued from the water at Old Hunstanton by fire crews from Hunstanton and Kings Lynn South, with the rescue boat.
