Memorial boost from Hunstanton military vehicle display
Efforts to honour servicemen and women who fell in Iraq and Afghanistan have been boosted by a display of historic military vehicles in Hunstanton.
Two days of live entertainment and the chance for enthusiasts to see some of Norfolk Military Vehicles Group's exhibits were on offer to visitors at the town's Green on Saturday and Sunday.
Proceeds were raised for the Royal Anglican Benevolent Fund (RABF) and towards a new memorial which is going to be built in Fleet, near Holbeach.
Event organiser Paul Hemmings said: "We raised £1372 for the RABF and £600 towards the memorial to be built in Fleet.
"This is to commemorate the ones who died in Iraq and Afghanistan. Harold Payne, from Anglia Motel started it all off and has done so much for the Royal Anglians, taking veterans back to Normandy and has secured a piece of land to put a memorial on in Fleet.
"He is planning an huge stainless steel tree and on each branch there will be a butterfly to remember those who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Live music and entertainment was provided by Cannery Row and the Peterborough Pipe Band.
Mr Hemmings also thanked the Waterside Bar on Beach Terrace Road who permitted the use of their toilets.
Enthusiasts could have their picture taken with the Bren gun, a World War II machine gun and the funds raised from this totalled £166.
The Wisbech Air Museum had a stall which collected vital funds for them and they also gave a donation to the RABF.
RABF supports ex military personnel after conflict and the funds are raised from exhibiting a collection of privately owned war vehicles and machinery.
These include amphibious vehicles used in Normandy, war time jeeps, a personnel carrier used in the Gulf War and collections of military memoribilla.
The RABF's next display will be at the Sandringham Game and Country fair this weekend.
