Hunstanton's Mayor launches Christmas Gift Appeal
An appeal has been launched to make Christmas a little brighter for people in a West Norfolk town.
Hunstanton’s Mayor, Tony Bishopp, is leading a Christmas Gift Appeal, joining forces with charities and community groups to help those in need during the festive season.
And he has this week urged the public to get involved.
He said: “Donating a present is a wonderful gift to give and will help to put smiles back to the faces of those less fortunate in our town.”
The appeal seeks items for people of all ages including toys, arts equipment, hygiene items, hats, scarves, gloves and socks, plus books, jewellery, wrapped sweets and chocolates.
Mr Bishopp said donations should not be pre-wrapped and items containing nuts, balloons and loom bands could not be accepted because of allergy risks.
He added: “Working alongside St Edmunds Church, the Food Bank, local community groups, charities and care homes, our voluntary elves will sort and distribute your gifts.
“It’s very important that all donated gifts are new and packaged. Our voluntary elves need to know what each gift is so they know who will enjoy it the most this Christmas.
“Once donated, all gifts will be quarantined by our teams for a Covid-19 safe period”.
Gifts can be left in marked collection boxes at the town hall, inside the Turret Door, the Community Centre and at participating shops and churches.
