'I dream of a time when Covid is no longer' 11-year-old Gaywood pupil's touching poem
Year 6 pupil Annie Overton, aged 11, the head girl at Gaywood Primary School in Lynn has written a pandemic poem with a positive angle.
The project asked pupils to create a poetic piece about life after Covid.
I dream of a time by Annie Overton
I dream of a time
Where masks are for Halloween
And gloves are for the Winter.
I dream of a time
Where 2 metres is tall
And 6 is just a number.
I dream of a time
When cleaning is boring
And rules are part of a game
I dream of a time
Where supermarkets aren't exciting
And shields are made of metal
I dream of a time
When our freedom returns
And COVID is no longer.
Her outlook on life is positive, despite both of her parents being key workers and the country stuck in lockdown for the third time.
Annie, whose mum is an NHS nurse at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and her father a teacher at her school, wanted to spread a message of hope instead of sadness.
She said: "I wanted to do something different, this is meant to be from a funny angle instead of a depressing one."
"I want to carry on and live my life, yes it has been hard for us all but there are positive things too - for instance with these smaller groups at school I have got to know people I didn't speak to before and find out interesting things about them.
"Being at home has also meant that I have spent some happy times with my family."
