‘Incredible’ amounts of rubbish cleared from Gaywood woods

Two hours of community hard work saw a Gaywood woodland area cleaned up.

The Friends of Plantation Wood organised a litter pick last Saturday in which 15 adults and three children endeavoured to improve the area with supplied equipment.

Organiser Lucy Ferrer said: “The Friends of Plantation Wood managed to clean up an incredible amount of rubbish strewn across the area from a combination of fly-tipping and the recent high winds blowing litter in.

“This community group regularly clean up the wood to keep it safe and pleasant for the community and the children who use it to get to school.”

The Friends of Plantation Wood are a group who work to maintain and encourage others to use the natural green space, located on Reffley Lane.

As a group, they run many activities throughout the year with the next event scheduled for Saturday, April 4 at the wood from 10am.

On the recent litter pick, a social media post by Friends of Plantation Woods stated: “Lovely clean up this morning. We had a wonderful turn out.

“Great having so many enthusiastic people out taking care of the local environment!”

The group say they are always looking for new members to join and they can be found on Facebook and Twitter.
