The inquest has opened into the death of a 22-year-old who drowned in West Norfolk last year.

Kristers Bednarskis, from Peterborough, was pronounced dead after a rescue operation took place in the water at Bawsey Country Park on August 8.

Area coroner Yvonne Blake told the court he died as a result of drowning as the inquest was opened this morning.

Kristers 'Kris' Bednarskis drowned just two days after his 22nd birthday.

A fundraising page was set up at the time by his friend Ilja Jevtusenko to cover funeral costs for the family. This raised nearly £6,500 after a fundraising target of £5,100 had been set.

Bawsey Country Park officials emphasised there are warning signs by the water, and regular posts on social media about the dangers of swimming following the death.

The inquest has been adjourned to May.
